As the error indicates, your client's TCP/IP settings, specifically its DNS Client settings must be configured to point to the internal DC running DNS. If your client's DNS settings are pointing to an ISP, you will not be able to join the domain. Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.

What are you using to resolve addresses? Do you have an internal DNS or are you using HOSTS files? Can you ping the DC by name from the Windows 7 machine? If not, how about by IP address? If you're using an internal DNS server with your static addresses did you enter its name/address in the correct place? If you're using DNS with static addresses and it's not AD integrated does it have a proper "A" record for your DC?

Be nice if you posted the fix for all users for future help :) www.mypchealth.co.uk Its quite simple to me now > the 'Preferred DNS Server' should be set to the IP of the domain controller and your 'Use the following IP Addresses' should just be set as normal
